1. Norah Jones - “First Sessions” - Blue Note (recorded 2000)
Somewhere between Ricky Lee Jones,Shelby Lynne and Diana Krall is Norah Jones. I’m not sure what section they file this under at the store but it should be in the “REALLY GOOD MUSIC” section. Even though I don’t think shes been nominated for a Grammy she get’s my vote for best new artist.( This may not be in stores yet and only available through her website at this time)
2. Pat Metheny Group ,“Speaking of Now” - WB 2002
Pat and his band always get it right. He is just a great musician in every aspect. Great music.
3. Merle Haggard - “Roots Volume 1 - Anti 2002
This aint no rehashed Nashville pop this CD is REAL country music. GREAT STUFF !!!!
4. Fela Kuti - “Best Best of Fela Kuti“ - MCA
I’ve been really excited about this style of African music lately. I saw a band from Brooklyn called “Antiballis” playing this style recently and I was so blown away I went back to listen to some of their influences. I’m sure you’ll be hearing some of this style creeping it’s way onto my records soon.
5. Horace Silver - “Song for My Father” - Bluenote 1964
Horace is cool.Always has been, always will be
