CD PLAYER ARCHIVES
March 1, 2008
1. Jim Hall, Pat Metheny
- This is real guitar player stuff, kind of
self indulgent but wonderful. When I listen to how good
these guys play on here it’s VERY humbling to say the
least.
2. Sharon Jones and the
Dap-Kings “100 days, 100 nights”
Her band, the "Dap-kings”
are a bunch of younger white guys from Brooklyn
who obviously love 60’s soul music and really do a
great job of playing it. They also played on Amy
Winehouse’s last CD that won all the Grammies so I’m not
the only one who digs these guys
3.Grant Green “Talkin’
About”
Larry Young, Elvin
Jones.
If you’re going
to pick 1 Grant Green CD to check out, this is probably
NOT it. But if you’re a diehard fan like me. It’s great
to hear this because it’s a little different setting for
him.
4. Ernest Ranglin- Below
the Bassline.
I just
got hip to this guy and have been wearing this one out.
I love it! He has such an original and unique approach
to the guitar. Although it’s a contemporary jazz format.
He can't help but let his reggae roots ( he’s a 75 year
old Jamaican ) seep into the music. It’s like George
Benson meets the Wailers on Mars.
5.
Roy Buccanan - 20th Century Masters
Sometimes I forget to
mention what a HUGE influence Roy was on me. People
sometimes mention to me about the crying sounds that I
get from my guitar. For my ears, Roy was the original
master of the weeping guitar.
